It was time to make
something whole again, make a whole personEven if that excluded me
The ticking seconds pulled me toward the endIt was cold when he no longer held meIt got
colder every step I took away from him
Just my imagination, of courseIt was still summer hereIt would always be summer here for
me
?What happens here when it rains, Jared?? I whispered?Where do people sleep??
It took him a moment to answer, and I could hear tears in his voice

I hopped down and, hugging the wall, made my escape
Jamie followed right behind meHe caught up to me in the big garden plaza and handed me the
remains of my bread
?It was real interesting, honest,? he told me?I don't think anyone's too upset
?Jeb put Doc up to this, didn't he??
?You tell good storiesOnce everyone knows that, they'll want to hear themJust like me and
Jeb
?What if I don'twant to tell them??
Jamie frowned?Well, I guess then? you shouldn'tBut it seems like you don't mind telling me
stories I could have said,You don't

There was a
pattern of strange convergence, the strangest being the inclusion of a frightened, unscrupulous
attorney named GatesWas he an inclusion or an aberration? What did it all mean? ?You are an
extraordinary man,? said Brendan quickly, covering his thoughts with rapid words?Your
perceptions are nothing short of brilliant, but you do understand that confidentiality is paramount
?I will hear no more, honored Judge!? exclaimed the deputy?Except to add that your appraisal
of my abilities might not be lost on my superiors
?They will be made clear, I assure youPrecisely where did my not too distant and

And at that moment, with the echo of the Seeker's laugh still hanging in the air, I suddenly

I jammed the knife into my arm
The headrest muffled my scream, but it was still too loudThe knife fell from my hand?jerking
sickeningly out from the muscle?and then clunked against the floor
?Wanda!? Jared rasped
I couldn't answer yetI tried to choke back the other screams I felt comingI'd been right not to
do this before driving
?Let me see!?
?Stay there,? I gasped
I heard the blanket rustling behind me despite my warningI pulled my left arm against my body
and yanked the door open with my right handJared's hand brushed my back as I half fell out

Gunman Kills Himself and Five Others in S. Finland [Feb. 3rd, 2010|03:49 pm]
"A gunman went on a shooting rampage Thursday, killing his former girlfriend then slaying four others at a suburban shopping center before fatally shooting himself, police said.

Finnish police said three men and one woman, all employees at the Sello shopping center in Espoo, 10 kilometers west of Helsinki, were shot dead by a man using an unlicensed 9mm handgun.

A fifth victim, the ex-girlfriend of the suspect, was found dead in a house in Espoo.

Police identified the shooter as Ibrahim Shkupolli, 43, am immigrant who had been living in Finland for several years, and said he was found dead in his flat in Espoo. Finnish media reported that Shkupolli was an ethnic Albanian from Kosovo.

Police Superintendent Jukka Kaski said the former girlfriend, a Finnish woman born in 1967, also worked at the mall and had taken out a restraining order against Shkupolli.

The midmorning slayings shocked hundreds of people who had gone shopping early on New Year's Eve. One witness told the state broadcaster YLE that a gunman dressed in black began randomly shooting at people on the second floor of the mall.

Finland has one of the world's highest gun ownership rates, ranking third behind the United States and Yemen at the end of 2006. There are about 1.6 million privately owned firearms for 5.3 million people in the country.

In November 2007, eight people were killed in a school shooting in Jokela in southern Finland. In September 2008, 10 people were fatally shot in another school shooting in Kauhajoki in western Finland.

The Finnish government has been considering tougher gun laws because of an increased number of shootings in recent years.

The government has raised the minimum age for buying firearms from 15 to 18 following the school shooting in 2007 and is planning to raise the age to 20.
