Two stories in the news last week got me thinking about privacy. The first was fallout from revelations that the National Security Agency taps the phones of Americans without judicial review. It means an American citizen calling his/her uncle in, say, Syria, to wish him Happy New Year might have NSA snoops listening in, and no one but NSA would be the wiser. That's Orwellian stuff, no matter how Big Brother spins it. The second was more mundane, but closer to home. Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty said he would seek changes in the state's driver’s license regulations to prevent identity theft. Attorney General Mike Hatch, who wants to be governor, came up with a proposal to stop the state from selling driver's license data. Yup, Minnesota sells driver's license data...
