11:00 am - My quest for the perfect steak Steak is steak... bloody red and chared on the outside from a open flame. I've always liked to eat steak, but I never realized how one could Love steak.. until I joined the navy. The navy itself didn't put the taste of meat in my mouth, it might have been the dull bland food that was cooked for thousands that primed me for my adventure on the meat market. The last temptation came from a east coast chain of steak houses called Steak and Ale. On their menu you can find a 9oz new york strip referred to as Bourban Street.
The steak is supposdly marinated in bourbon whiskey (named that way from bourbon county) and brown sugar, along with other spices. I have friends I could visit on the East Coast, but honestly, we know the real reason I would make the trek.
Now I must recreate this steak... I MUST! I have tried bourben marinades, but can't find the flavor. Currently I have abandoned the search, and use a recipe which is serving me well: Johnny's Seasoning Salt McCormick's Montreal Steak Seasoning McCormick's Montreal Steak Grilling Sauce
I cover the steak with the salts before throwing it on the grill, 7 minutes on the first side, 5 on the other. The liquid montreal sauce is needed to keep the steak from being to dry... I put that on for only a minute or two on each side, since it burns easily.
