HDTV stands for High Definition Televisions. It was around somewhere in the 1990s that the Digital HDTV Grand Alliance put forward this technology in the United States of America. This is also specified as 1080 active lines, 16 x 9 aspect ratio in ITU-R BT.709.

High defintion television refers to screen of fullscreen image with more and more detail and sharpness than available in normal analog Televisions, or another techie TVs formats. As a matter of fact it is the highest quality Digital Television (DTV) screen format observed.

Types of High defintion TV displays include plasma, direct-view, rear screen, and front screen projection. HDTVs can be visualised through HDTV tuner and 1080i is the most definite HDTV format.
